Job Summary: Play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of technical documentation in accordance with FAA regulations and 21 Air standards of quality.


Essential Job Duties:

  1. Exercise discretion to review, analyze, and edit policies, procedures, and manuals for comprehension and provide improvement plans.
  2. Ensure that all requested changes received for each document revision are incorporated fully and correctly. 
  3. Verify the validity of the Summary of Changes, List of Effective Pages, and all cross-references for each document.
  4. Analyze documents to maintain continuity of styles.
  5. Ensure adherence to ATA 100 Chapter assignments where applicable.
  6. Contribute to maintaining a comprehensive library of aviation terminology and documentation.
  7. Interface and coordinate in a professional manner with other departments to ensure compliance with manual owner requests and regulatory requirements.
  8. Promote and lead continuous improvement efforts of the Technical Publications department, including procedures, quality control, workflow, and tools.
  9. Demonstrate expertise in technical documentation methods and procedures in a positive manner.
  10. Mentor teammates for Technical Publications documentation and publications.


Secondary Duties: 

Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Technical Publications.



Requirements

Job Qualifications: 

Minimum:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, or related field.
  2. Minimum six years’ experience as a technical writer or equivalent position(s).
  3. Alternate combinations of degree and experience may be acceptable.
  4. Excellent computer skills [MS Word, Windows environment, Internet browser]. 
  5. Must be fluent in English – read, write, speak and understand.
  6. Must have excellent oral, written, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  7. Must be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
  8. Must be available for extra hours and/or to work a flexible schedule, as job requirements dictate. 


Preferred:

  1. Ten years’ experience as a technical writer.
  2. Certified professional or has completed other formal demonstrated mastery of industry concepts practices and procedures.
  3. Thorough knowledge of the ATA iSpec 2200 format.
  4. Thorough knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 119 and 121 FAA regulations, specifications, and related requirements.


Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to sit and work effectively at a computer for extended periods of time.
  2. Must be able to work assigned schedule with minimal absences.
