Overview of role

Our growing Data Products team is looking for a Product Owner who can see the big picture and connect the dots between business needs and technical magic. You’ll help shape data products that make life easier for our teams, give stakeholders the insights they need, and keep our business moving forward.  Are you passionate about data and product management? Are you a results-driven problem solver who enjoys challenges? If so, join our team to drive data product roadmap delivery to enable the organization with faster access to reliable data.  This role is responsible for maintaining key relationships across all WestJet business units and will support identifying and communicating data requirements for our development team.

 

Key deliverables include:

  • Be a key leader to spearhead the building of our next generation data products and solutions.
  • Gather and prioritize technical and business requirements for innovative data products.
  • Responsible for creating and prioritizing features within the product backlog.
  • Works with the development team and business stakeholders in identifying, organizing, and prioritizing tasks and actions required for the next product iteration.
  • Research and recommend future features based on business objectives.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders to support product delivery.
  • Responsible for inspecting and evaluating product progress through each iteration.
  • Responsible for communication updates for stakeholders related to the product.
  • Collaborate with IT and business to identify and prioritize automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Problem solve and overcome roadblocks and challenges as they arise.

Experience and qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Business, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, etc.) 
  • 5+ years’ experience with a minimum of 3 years as a product owner / technical product manager or in a similar role 
  • Complex problem-solving skills and advanced interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to influence others 
  • Experience and ability to explain key concepts, features and functionality to non-technical end user groups 
  • Experience in business analysis and exposure to data development in a large enterprise environment with ability to balance technical and business consideration 
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently and cross functionally 
  • Strong technical background in data (analysis, development, tools, processes and methodologies.
  • Agile Product Owner, Scrum Master or project management certification 
  • Experience with JIRA, Azure Devops 
  • Prior experience working for an airline
