Job Description

The Facilities Technician maintains and supports a modern aircraft hangar and associated office areas by performing routine upkeep, basic repairs, and general facility maintenance. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with regular cleaning, organization, and support for aircraft operations and maintenance activities. The Facilities Technician uses hand tools, cleaning supplies, and basic construction skills to keep the hangar, workshops, classrooms, and offices safe, clean, and operational.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily upkeep and maintenance of equipment and facilities in and around the aircraft hangar using basic mechanical aptitude and hand tools.
  • Use cleaning supplies to sweep, mop, wipe down surfaces, and dispose of trash and materials throughout the hangar, workshops, classrooms, and common areas.
  • Clean and organize woodworking rooms, hangar workshops, classrooms, and paint rooms, ensuring they remain safe, tidy, and ready for use.
  • Run errands to obtain gas, repair materials, cleaning supplies, and other items needed to support maintenance and facility operations.
  • Assist with unloading equipment on aircraft when needed and help build supports or fixtures to hold aircraft assemblies in place.
  • Support main office areas by performing standard maintenance tasks such as fixing minor issues, assembling office furniture, and addressing general upkeep needs.
  • Inspect and maintain restrooms and lunchrooms, including cleaning, restocking, and ensuring these areas remain sanitary and presentable.
  • Move vehicles within the hangar as needed to support aircraft operations and facility preparation.
  • Start each day by working through a hangar checklist, including moving and staging equipment, sweeping floors, emptying trash bins, and wiping down surfaces to prepare the facility for operations.
  • Build, repair, and store crates and other storage solutions to support aircraft operations and maintenance activities.
  • Replace light bulbs and perform basic lighting maintenance throughout the hangar and office areas.
  • Assist with aircraft ballast removal, replacement, and storage under direction from the aircraft operations or maintenance teams.
  • Perform minor repairs on doors, windows, and other facility fixtures to ensure proper function and safety.
  • Retrieve tools and equipment for aircraft maintenance activities and return them to proper storage locations.
  • Perform painting and touch-up work as needed in hangar, workshop, and office areas.
  • Follow safety procedures when working at heights, using ladders, and operating scissor lifts.
  • Adapt to a variety of tasks throughout the day, supporting both aircraft operations and general facility upkeep based on current projects and priorities.

Essential Skills

  • Experience using basic hand tools for maintenance, repair, and construction tasks.
  • Ability to perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, and emptying trash.
  • Comfort working in hangar and outdoor environments with variable conditions.
  • Comfort climbing ladders and safely operating scissor lifts.
  • Capability to perform physically active work, including walking, climbing stairs, moving equipment, and handling materials throughout the day.
  • Reliability and willingness to start shifts as early as 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. when needed while maintaining a full 8-hour workday.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop skills for a long-term career in facilities and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow checklists and complete routine tasks consistently and accurately.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for performing simple repairs and supporting maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work safely around aircraft, vehicles, tools, and equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in facilities maintenance, general labor, or construction environments.
  • Experience with painting and basic finishing work in an industrial or facilities setting.
  • Familiarity with cleaning and maintaining workshops, classrooms, and office environments.
  • Ability to assemble office furniture and perform minor office repairs.
  • Interest in working around aircraft operations and maintenance teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to keep tools, materials, and work areas orderly.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand-new aircraft hangar as well as an original hangar and attached office areas located at an airport across the runway from the main terminal. The environment includes active aircraft operations, workshops, classrooms, and office spaces, with frequent movement between areas and significant time spent walking and climbing stairs. Work occasionally takes place outdoors in variable weather conditions. The schedule is typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with some days requiring an earlier start at 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. to prepare and clean the hangar and stage materials; the shift remains 8 hours, allowing for an earlier finish on those days. The position involves regular use of hand tools, cleaning materials, ladders, and scissor lifts in a dynamic, hands-on, and safety-conscious setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spokane, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
