As a Manufacturing Engineer Process Planning Machining / Fabrications, you will be responsible for ensuring that the original design intent is met in the finished product.
The Manufacturing Engineer will translate design information in the form of CAD models, drawings, material and manufacturing process specifications into repeatable processes as part of the Manufacturing Engineering Process.
The design intent being documented in the manufacturing engineering - Planning, so that operators understand the steps needed to create the design intent. Manufacturing methods in written and/or pictorial instructions with due regard to the facilities within the detail manufacturing area and considering the efficiency and quality for Detailed Manufacturing This is achieved by providing a documented, safe, capable and repeatable method. The Method (planning) will dictate the sequence of manufacturing including skills / tooling / equipment required for both sub-assemblies and details tasks, in line with the associated Condition of Supply. The role is responsible for the creation of MBOMs reconcilable to the Design, inspection stages and quality records.
Typical duties
The successful candidate will be required to perform tasks suitable to the internal level of this role. The role will contain, but will not be limited to, the following:
Liaison with the design organisation (as needed) to provide design for manufacture input
Creating manufacturing plans for Build Assembly Structure and for complete component manufacturing solutions covering:
Processing the bill of material
Maintaining design and engineering configuration control
Identification of tooling requirements
Identification of NC programming requirements
Provision of shop floor support to the operations teams
Capturing and embodying identified engineering and design change.
Compliance with H&SE requirements and regulations
Compliance with internal process and procedure
Applying and supporting component condition of supply requirements
Liaison with the customer manufacturing areas and engineering teams, if/as queries arise
Build line support
Identifying product quality and cost saving opportunities
Knowledge:
Assembly or Carbon Fibre Composites engineering and manufacturing experience in the aerospace (or equivalent standard) industry
Knowledge of Machining / Fabrications detail manufacturing process.
Knowledge and experience of Sub-Assembly Manufacturing processes
Engineering Tool set knowledge, NX / CATIA V5, PLM (or equivalent Product Data Manager), SAP CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) or SFM (Shop Floor Manager), CDP and VAS
Skills:
Computer literate with good knowledge of standard office IT packages
Ability to manage unplanned events and work to tight deadlines.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively at multiple organisational levels
Qualifications:
Engineering Degree or HNC/HND or recognised apprenticeship and significant experience in the aerospace (or equivalent standard) industry
Recognising the RESTRICTED nature of the work, suitable candidates will be SC cleared or eligible for this level of clearance
