The role of Machine Operator involves operating computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines such as milling machines, lathes, turning centers, and horizontal mills to construct aircraft interior structural and non-structural parts. This position requires adherence to engineering drawings, company, and customer specifications across various levels including Level 1, 2, 3, and Lead.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to company and customer specifications, work instructions, engineering prints, and work orders.
- Document materials and processes used to maintain product traceability.
- Safely operate CNC machines, including loading programs and executing program cutting of materials.
- Cut raw stock to the approximate size necessary for machining parts.
- Secure and fixture raw stock material into the machine.
- Square material prior to running the program if necessary.
- Monitor machine operation to ensure proper program performance.
- Complete machine parts as time allows.
- Provide feedback to the supervisor and programmer regarding program and tooling performance.
- Verify the accuracy of parts using calipers, micrometers, and other metrology equipment.
- Report suspect parts immediately to supervisors.
- Ensure the machine is in proper working order and report any issues.
- Maintain a clean and neat area around the machine.
- Properly maintain coolant, including removal of contaminants, correct dilution ratio, and recharging when necessary.
Essential Skills
- Basic operation of CNC machines with familiarity in G and M code preferred.
- Ability to read and write English at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Sensitivity to safety regulations and requirements.
- Ability to self-inspect work and correct discrepancies promptly.
- Understanding of work orders.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 0-3 years of experience in machine operation.
- Entry-level position within the field.
- Ability to conduct routine tasks under close supervision.
