Automated Test Equipment Lead
FAA Part 145 Repair Station
We are seeking a hands on Senior Avionics Test Engineer Team Lead to oversee automated test operations within our FAA Part 145 avionics repair station.
This role combines advanced avionics test engineering with leadership of the automated test department. The position is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting Automated Test Equipment (ATE) while coordinating daily machine scheduling, technician workflow, and test throughput.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Avionics Test Engineer, Avionics Test Supervisor, or Lead Avionics Bench Technician ready to lead automated test operations in a fast paced repair environment.
TEST EQUIPMENT ENVIRONMENT:
This role supports and oversees automated avionics test systems including:
- TestTek automated avionics test systems
- AVTRON electronic test systems
- ATEC automated test equipment
- IRIS avionics test platforms
- Circuit card and electronic assembly test systems
- Avionics bench testing and diagnostic equipment
Hands on troubleshooting and operational experience with Automated Test Equipment, electronics diagnostics, and avionics test systems in aerospace or electronics environments is strongly preferred.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead daily operations of the automated test department supporting avionics component repair.
- Schedule and coordinate automated test equipment usage to ensure all machines remain fully utilized and production throughput goals are met.
- Supervise and mentor avionics test technicians and electronics bench technicians.
- Troubleshoot automated test equipment issues including electronic hardware, software interfaces, and diagnostic systems.
- Serve as the technical owner for automated test systems, including equipment reliability, uptime, and maintenance coordination.
- Work closely with operations, production, and quality teams to prioritize testing workload and meet customer turnaround requirements.
- Analyze test workflow, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to increase department efficiency.
- Ensure all testing activities comply with FAA Part 145 repair station procedures and FAR requirements.
- Maintain test documentation and support audit readiness for internal and regulatory inspections.
- Track department metrics such as test throughput, equipment utilization, and turnaround time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with Automated Test Equipment (ATE) used in avionics or aerospace electronics testing.
- Strong troubleshooting ability with electronic assemblies, circuit card assemblies, and avionics components.
- Experience reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical test documentation.
- Background in avionics component repair, aerospace electronics manufacturing, or FAA Part 145 repair stations preferred.
- Experience scheduling work, coordinating technician workloads, or supervising test teams.
- Strong technical problem solving skills with an engineering focused mindset.
- Ability to balance technical troubleshooting with operational leadership responsibilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Fluent in English reading, writing, and speaking.
