Purpose of Position

The Indirect Tax Supervisor will play a critical role in leading and scaling the companys indirect tax function across multiple state and local jurisdictions. This individual will oversee indirect tax compliance while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders to build sustainable processes, implement best practices, and support the companys evolving footprint. This is a highly visible role for someone who enjoys ownership, problem-solving, and driving continuous improvement.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of indirect tax returns and payments, including property tax, sales tax, use tax, and gross receipts tax across multiple jurisdictions.
Develop, implement, and continuously improve indirect tax compliance processes, controls, and documentation to support a growing and complex business environment.
Proactively assess the companys business activities and geographic footprint to identify new or changing indirect tax filing and registration requirements.
Manage business license applications and renewals, ensuring ongoing compliance with state and local regulations.
Serve as a primary point of contact for tax authorities, responding to notices, inquiries, and audits, and resolving issues efficiently and professionally.
Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Finance, Legal, Accounting, and business stakeholders to align on compliance requirements and operational needs.
Supervise, mentor, and develop indirect tax staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

5+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, with demonstrated multi-state exposure.
Strong working knowledge of indirect tax concepts, including sales, use, property, and gross receipts taxes.
Proven ability to identify, analyze, and resolve indirect tax issues in a dynamic business environment.
Experience developing and implementing processes, controls, and best practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical tax matters to non-tax stakeholders.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall systems aptitude.
Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects simultaneously.
Action-oriented, detail-driven, and focused on delivering positive business outcomes.
