Job Description:

Primary Duties

  • Lead the development of the health and safety culture where all staff are aware of and actively participate in safety initiatives. 
  • Providing periodic reports on safety performance and the effectiveness of mitigation actions
  • Take the role of Chair for the Safety Committee and participate in the Safety Review Board and Safety Action Groups.
  • Manage the safety reporting scheme and occurrence reporting systems including initiation of reporting, investigation and assistance with resolution/mitigation.
  • Develop, implement and promote health and safety policies and ensure adherence by employees liaising where necessary with external agencies/regulators and industry groups.
  • In liaison with the Compliance Monitoring Manager ensure maintenance of regulatory certification as it relates to Aviation safety management system.
  • Lead on Fire safety for the site, taking on role of Chief Fire Warden 
  • Assist the Manager, HR with rehabilitation and return-to-work process and oversee suitable duties programs with respective managers.
  • Implement and manage training courses for new and existing employees as they relate to health and safety policies and regulatory training/assessment requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of environmental strategies, for example, strategies for sustainable development, resource conservation, and waste reduction that align with Corporate objectives. 
  • Undertake risk assessments and hazard identification to ensure the site remains compliant and risks are identified and managed.
  • Lead EHS audits (both internal and external) including preparation, resolution of non-compliance and review of observations.
  • Assist the leadership team to implement key safety initiatives ensuring key members are supported to implement initiatives. 
  • Take ownership of site security issues, including but not limited to employee security, site security and management of security events in liaison with the General Manager and Manager HR.
  • Site representative with the wider organization on matters relating to EH&S/SMS/Security

Position Requirements

  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Bachelors Degree in Safety Management/Environmental or closely related field (required)
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams (locally and internationally)
  • Intermediate knowledge of relevant systems including MS suite, and electronic safety systems.
  • High level understanding, and implementation of safety plans with the ability to review and implement changes in response to changing business needs
  • Ability to work autonomously and with little direction, ability to set own schedule and adapt to changing needs as they arise.

 In addition

  • Must be willing to walk to various areas throughout the facility throughout the day.
  • Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) on a regular basis, steel toe safety shoes.
  • Must be willing to work shift work, occasional overtime, weekend and holiday on-call when required.
