Overview

The Director of Powerplant is responsible for all engine / apu / thrust reverser / nacelle programs, instructions, documents, and technical support that economically ensures the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of Atlas Air, & Polar Air aircraft Powerplant, APU, & Thrust Reverser systems. This individual will also be responsible for performance and financial reviews of customer engines / apu/thrust reverser and to ensure the performance of those systems are maximized and meet the customer expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Forecast all Engines, APU, & Thrust Reverser scheduled removals
  • Coordinate all scheduled and unscheduled engine, APU, and Thrust Reverser removals (including spare engine conditions & logistical movements)
  • Maintain spare engine / apu / thrust reverser for all fleet types (including all tooling & C&E material inventory to support engine changes)
  • Lead, plan, & coordinate all engine, apu, thrust reverser shop visits (including developing technical bid spec documents, directing shops for each work scope for completion, monitoring & overseeing shop visits, and financial planning & forecasting for each event, and coordinate with Finance Department)
  • Provide financial forecasts for all engine/apu/thrust reverser events (including monthly budgeting & financial variances for operating & capital plans, in conjunction with Finance Teams).
  • Responsible for the development of Powerplant related Reliability Improvement programs, root cause analysis (RCA), corrective action plan (CAP) development and surveillance.
  • Work with both internal and external customers on engine / apu / thrust reverser performance and financial agreements
  • Support all Powerplant Soft-Time Projects and coordinate activities with Tech Ops departments.
  • Support all 777, 747, 767, 737 Fleet Team activities as they relate to engines / apu / thrust reversers
  • Oversee the updates of technical source documents as applicable to insure accuracy.
  • Support integration of new and previously operated aircraft and Powerplants.
  • Liaise with manufacturers; maintenance representatives, repair & overhaul (MRO) facilities; outside engineering departments; regulatory personnel; and other outside agencies.
  • Review work of consultant, contract, and MRO Powerplant representatives.
  • Evaluate the incorporation of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Service Letters (SLs), and other notifications of in-service issues.
  • Incorporate product improvement modifications as dictated by Reliability indicators.
  • Work with original equipment manufacturers on emerging issues to help ensure safety and airworthiness, but also minimize the economic impact.
  • Establish component repair and build specifications to enhance dispatch reliability in accordance with budgetary and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide operational support to Technical Operations, Ground Operations, Flight Operations, and other Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings personnel.
  • Ensures the administration of the Engine Condition Monitoring Program for all engines is optimized.
  • Coordinate with Powerplant Program Managers to provide 24/7 technical support.
  • Review Powerplant portion of the Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection Program, and initiate maintenance program changes and changes to maintenance documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Scheduled Maintenance
Job Requirements:
Qualifications
  • S. Engineering/Aviation Maintenance management or equivalent experience
  • 7 + years Aircraft Powerplant experience
  • 9 -11 years in applied engineering setting, preferred.
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with aircraft engine and APU systems and components.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of large powerplant systems and components design.
  • Ability to identify cost effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with manufacturers and regulatory agencies.
  • Financial analysis skills required.
  • Strong ability to handle multiple challenges at once
  • Must be comfortable and skilled in communicating and presenting to executive leadership

Salary Range: $114,000 - $154,000
