Summary 

Responsible for all mechanical components, assemblies, and modifications of the various types of simulator devices. This includes but is not limited to common tasks such as cutting, drilling, fitting, riveting, bending, gluing, and an assortment of assembly fastening techniques. Mechanics are responsible for rigging and lifting major components of simulators. They also operate support equipment like forklifts and scissor lifts, which are essential for removing and installing simulator equipment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform receiving inspection for shipping damage and inventory of materials/products received at the site. 

• Read work orders, followed production, and sampled assemblies, diagrams, and parts lists or received verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed.  

• Measure parts to determine specified tolerance. 

• Ability to read precision measuring equipment. 

• Reads and interprets blueprints to fabricate complex assemblies. 

• Fabricates parts from raw materials. 

• Files and buffs parts to fit. 

• Drills, taps, reams, countersinks, and spot face bolt holes in parts. 

• Position and align parts. 

• Identifies and utilizes appropriate hardware as required. 

• Bolts, screws, and rivets parts together to close tolerances. 

• Disassembles and replaces parts as required. 

• Laps and hones internal cylindrical surfaces. 

• Test the functional performance of assemblies. 

• Cleans and lubricates parts and assemblies. 

• Marks identifying information on parts. 

• Inventory assign toolbox and sign inventory sheet. 

• Perform tool room inventory. 

• Perform simulator teardown and packing of simulator components for shipment. 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

• High school diploma or general education degree. 

• 5+ years of experience as a flight simulator mechanic. 

• Must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance 

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations with other employees of the organization. 

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to figure percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry 

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 

• Must have a good knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical hand tools and be able to effectively use them (Hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers and scales, pneumatic and manual drills, rivet guns, fastening tools such as clamps and Cleco’s shop equipment such as drill presses, brakes and shears etc.). 

• Must have a sound understanding of military and commercial workmanship standards 

• Must be willing and able to assume work assignments away from the facility for extended periods of time (40 of the year) and be willing to work rotating shifts.  

• Must be able to work from parts lists, assembly drawings, schematics, engineering orders, engineering change orders, engineering logs, CAE workmanship standards and CAE manufacturing procedures/work instructions. 

• Must have basic computer skills for time reporting and work order processing. 

• Must be able to perform work assignments with minimal supervision.

Must comply with all company security and data protection/usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper spaning and handling of all information and materials in any form. Shall not divulge any information or afford access to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside the company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company-provided resources.

• Work in high, precarious places.

• Outdoor weather conditions 1/3 to none of the time. 

• Risk of electrical shock 1/3 to none of the time. 

• The noise level is loud. (Example: manufacturing area) 

• Must possess manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination. 

• Ability to stand or sit for long periods. 

• Use hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the time. 

• Reach with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time. 

• Climb or balance on an approved safety ladder.  

• Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling under for long periods. 

• Talk or hear 1/3 to 2/3 of the time. 

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 

• Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less, Jaeger 1 of .50mm letters &64; 14” or better). 

• Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more, Snellen Chart 20/50 or better). 

• Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). 

• Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). 

• Must be willing to work overtime 

• Moderate to high levels of stress associated with technical, scheduling, and customer issues are to be expected with this position.  Extended work hours and possible 2nd and 3rd shift assignments are likely to be encountered.
