As a lead mechanical design engineer for electric machine design and development, you will lead the charge in advancing hybrid electric technologies, collaborating globally with industry and academic partners. Your work will directly impact GE Aerospace’s hybrid electric capabilities supporting next gen aerospace propulsion programs.

Job Description

Ideal Candidate: A strategic thinker with strong mechanical sense and ability to problem solve. Ideal candidate will have knowledge and ability in component and systems integration, understanding for aerospace power generation and someone who excels in problem-solving, project management, and collaboration. Knowledge of electric machine design and hybrid electric systems a great incentive but not required background

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design system/components for integration of a motor/generator to support electrified propulsion.
  • Own prototype parts including all aspects of design, analysis, drawings and manufacturing.
  • Develop new applications of technology for product development of electrical power generation, conversion, transmission and distribution components and systems for advanced aviation applications.
  • Partner with electrical system, mechanical and thermal, manufacturing and test teams to advance the development of hybrid electric systems.
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in disciplinary engineering and science

Desired Characteristics

  • Proficiency in 2D/3D finite element analysis (ANSYS preferred).
  • Strong background in mechanical design and analysis.
  • Experience with electric propulsion systems.
  • Proficiency in structural and mechanical analyses.
  • Experience in prototyping and hands-on assembly and testing operations.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management experience.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
