Gem Air is a small air-service provider based in Salmon, Idaho; our rural mountain town offers easy, out-your-backdoor access to rafting, fishing, mountain biking, hunting, skiing and more. You’ll need to like the reality of living in a small, isolated mountain town to really like this position.

We are looking for an experienced A&P Mechanic/IA (or ready to go for an IA) to join our team as lead mechanic. You will work directly under our DOM and help organize and lead the other 2-4 mechanics. You can expect to actively work on aircraft the majority of the time, and use your IA to sign off inspections when our DOM is not on.

Our ideal candidate has significant professional experience with piston aircraft and turbo-props, and familiarity with part 135 regulations. Our ideal candidate is also comfortable with computer work and paperwork required by the company and regulations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (but aren't limited to):

  • Under the direction of the DOM, organize and manage maintenance for our part 135 operation in order to keep our airplanes airworthy and available for flight
  • Perform maintenance, run-ups and taxis, and clean aircraft after completing maintenance
  • Use, implement, and improve systems to keep the shop running efficiently and effectively
  • Help ensure that all aircraft and maintenance area facilities are constantly in compliance with all FAA, OSHA, industry and company guidelines, and are kept in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Comply with 14 CFR (as applicable), manufacturer’s specifications, company policies, and procedures, as well as other methods accepted by the FAA.
  • Fully understand the policies and procedures contained in company manuals, and make suggestions for improvement when applicable.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional business manner at all times
  • Assist with additional tasks and duties as they may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • A current Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate required
  • Must also either have or be qualified and ready to obtain an IA.
  • 5+ years of professional aircraft maintenance work experience, including significant professional experience on piston aircraft
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform all job tasks.
  • Knowledge of current FAA regulations, especially as pertains to maintenance on part 135 aircraft
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical tasks which include bending, stooping, kneeling, and working overhead for long periods of time
  • Valid US driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • This is a full-time position. Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work any shift including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Evening and weekend work may be required and is likely during June-September, our busy season
  • Please note this is a safety-sensitive position that requires drug testing.

PREFERRED

  • Prefer 10+ years of experience
  • 5+ years’ professional aircraft maintenance work experience on piston and turboprop aircraft
  • Experience working in a Part 135 environment
  • Experience with single-engine piston Cessnas, Cessna Caravans, Britten-Norman Islanders, and twin-engine Pipers.
  • Preferred experience in cosmetic maintenance - interior and exterior
  • Prefer experience as a lead mechanic
Salary Range: $79,000-$87,360
Relocation: negotiable
Travel: Infrequent
