Job Description:

The Chief Inspector is responsible for overseeing the quality control and inspection processes to ensure that all repairs, and overhauls comply with FAA regulations, company policies, and industry standards. 

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Performs assessment on various aerospace turbine components received for inspection by following written procedures, documents (blueprints, drawings, and specifications), and established practices in adherence to FAA regulations. 
  • Provide guidance and oversight to technicians and inspectors to ensure they are adhering to proper inspection procedures and safety protocols.
  • Mentor and provide on-the-job (OTJ) training to lower level employees. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a quality control system, including conducting internal audits and inspections of aircraft, facilities, and procedures.
  • Evaluate current inspection and maintenance processes, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Liaise with FAA representatives and other regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and certifications.
  • Performs NDT (X-ray, FPI, ultrasonic, etc.), and visual and dimensional inspections as required.
  • Interfaces with engineering and order execution regarding recommendations for work instruction and router improvements. 
  • Generates NCRs in the QSI system. 
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Operates small cranes to move equipment, parts, and materials. 
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area. 
  • Following Environmental Health and Safety regulations while working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Performing waste handling in accordance with EHS procedures & legal requirements, such as: 
    • Segregating waste generated. 
    • Placing hazardous and non-hazardous waste in appropriate containers. 
    • Maintaining waste containers closed and in good condition. 
    • Labeling waste containers with appropriate hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste labels. 
    • Marking the start accumulation date to the hazardous waste label once the container in the satellite accumulation area becomes full. 
    • Arranging internal waste transfer to the central accumulation area. 
    • Contain and clean up area incidental spills. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • FPI Level 3 required.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License and/or Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred. 
  • Complete specific on-the-job training toward meeting essential duties and work area performance criteria.
  • Must complete EHS-assigned regulatory training for the work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix, which includes:
    • Initial and annual Hazardous Waste Management training. 

Skills/Experience 

  • 7+ years of experience in an aviation/aerospace production or manufacturing test environment. 
  • 7+ years of experience performing NDT, visual, and dimensional inspection processes. 
  • 7+ years of experience with interpretation of technical drawings or work instructions. 
  • Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, aircraft systems, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with technicians, management, regulatory authorities, and customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs, SAP, and timekeeping applications.

Physical Requirements 

  • Stooping/Crouching. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. 
  • Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. 
  • Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. 
  • Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. 
  • Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time 
  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work area to another. 
  • Pushing & Pulling 
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. 
  • Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. 
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. 
  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. 
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to high heat, or exposure to chemicals. 
  • May require travel (air & ground) with short notice. 
  • Being able to wear required PPE for specific tasks performed, such as respirators, Tyvek suit, gloves, face shield, etc. 
  • Ability to cooperate and work with people.
