Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Seat Technician to join our corporate aircraft interior team. The successful candidate will specialize in the disassembly, overhaul, re-foam, re-cover, and re-installation of crew and passenger seats for business jets. Youll own the full seat process from frame to final fit, ensuring perfect comfort, function, and finish while meeting FAA flammability and 16g compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Seat Teardown & Rebuild

  • Disassemble corporate aircraft seats, divans, and jumpseats down to frame level; catalog hardware, placards, and components for reassembly
  • Inspect seat structures, recline/leg rest/tracking mechanisms, and safety belts for wear, damage, or SB/AD compliance; coordinate repairs with mechanical team
  • Rebuild seat assemblies including new foam shaping, suspension systems, fire-blocking layers, and lumbar/knee bolster installations

Foam & Comfort Work

  • Contour, shape, and bond multi-density foam per engineering drawings and ergonomic specs to achieve proper sit profile and comfort
  • Install Dacron, silk film, PUD, and fire-block as required; verify foam assemblies pass burn and egress requirements

Cover Installation & Fit

  • Install sewn leather, vinyl, and UL fabric covers onto seat assemblies, ensuring wrinkle-free fit, crisp edges, correct pattern match, and hidden attachment
  • Perform final detail work: hand-close seams, install welting/piping, align stitching to frame features, and set seatback shrouds, arm caps, and headrests
  • Function-test all seat mechanisms after cover install: recline, swivel, tracking, leg rests, and TTOL positions

Removal & Installation

  • Remove and reinstall completed seat units in aircraft while protecting leather, wood, and adjacent finishes; torque and safety hardware per AMM
  • Verify proper fit to seat tracks, electrical connections for powered seats, and placard placement per FAR 25.853

Quality & Compliance

  • Inspect all seat work for craftsmanship, comfort, mechanism function, seam alignment, and cosmetic defects
  • Ensure all materials, foams, and cover assemblies meet FAA burn requirements with full traceability
  • Complete work orders, 8110-3 references, return-to-service paperwork, and material trace tags accurately

Communication

  • Work directly with upholstery, sewing, and engineering teams on foam mods, cover fit issues, and customer change requests
  • Communicate status, squawks, and ETAs to team leads and project managers; interface with customers during installs/delivery
Requirements

Experience

  • 3+ years hands-on experience building corporate or general aviation aircraft seats required

Technical Skills

  • Expert ability to read seat-specific engineering drawings, CMMs, work instructions, and foam templates
  • Proficient with pneumatic hog-ring tools, staple guns, foam saws/shapers, adhesives, and hand tools for seat assembly
  • Deep knowledge of FAA Part 25 flammability, 16g HIC requirements, approved materials, and burn testing processes
  • Understanding of seat belt/OEM mechanism overhaul and functional rigging
  • Strong pattern fit and cover installation skills on complex compound curves

Core Competencies

  • Exceptional attention to comfort, aesthetics, and mechanical function
  • Ability to diagnose and solve fit, wrinkle, or mechanism issues without supervision
  • High level of craftsmanship &8212; seats are the most touched item in the cabin
  • Works well under deadline in AOG or delivery-driven environments
Performance Expectations

  • Efficiency: Meet budgeted hours for seat shipsets; minimize rework and material waste
  • Safety: Follow PPE, adhesive/solvent handling, and lock-out/tag-out procedures during R&R
  • Customer Service: Treat every seat like its for your own aircraft &8212; comfort and presentation matter
Work Environment
