The salary range for this position is $40.00 to $46.00 per hour.
The Tool Designer is responsible for creating innovative tooling solutions for aerospace manufacturing, ensuring the highest quality and efficiency standards are met. This role involves the design, development, and implementation of tools and fixtures to support the production of precision components and assemblies in accordance with industry and company specifications.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Design and Development:
- Develop detailed designs for tools, fixtures, and jigs to support manufacturing and assembly operations.
- Create 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings using software such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
- Ensure designs comply with aerospace standards, tolerances, and specifications.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure tools meet functional requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to machinists and production staff during tool fabrication and implementation.
- Collaborate with suppliers for outsourced tooling and components.
- Process Improvement:
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for tooling improvements.
- Optimize tooling designs to improve production efficiency, reduce cycle times, and ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Problem-Solving:
- Address tooling issues by troubleshooting and developing creative solutions.
- Evaluate and modify tools based on production feedback and testing results.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate documentation of tool designs, specifications, and revisions.
- Ensure all tooling complies with safety standards, company policies, and aerospace regulations..
Position Requirements:
- Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Design, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in tool design, preferably in aerospace manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and machining methods.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100) is a plus.
