As an integral part of our multi-discipline engineering team in Advanced Weapons, you will be on the forefront of developing next generation solutions to protect technology for our nation’s warfighter. The ideal candidate will support one of our Advanced Programs as the lead for defining and architecting a secured missile weapon system. This position will require close collaboration with team members of other projects within the organization for security architecture designs as well as external partners and customers.

What You’ll Get to Do:
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking a System Safety Engineer with experience in safety engineering processes and standards to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located on-site in Northridge, CA.
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grummans System Safety team within Specialty Engineering. Activities include system safety analysis of military weapon systems, participation in risk assessments/resolution and mishap investigations. The ideal candidate will have experience with MIL-STD-882E and familiarity with Military and their equivalent industry standards such as MIL-STD-882, RCC 319, AFSPCMAN 91-710, ASTM, ANSI, NEC, AFOSH, AOP-52, JOTP-051, PESHE and NFPA.
Basic Qualifications:
BS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related STEM discipline with 12 years of relevant/related experience or a MS in STEM degree with 10 years of relevant/related experience
Demonstrated ability in the application of MIL-STD-882E to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards
Experience documenting hazards with a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System (HTS)
Ability to read and interpret electrical circuit schematics
Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles to develop safety documentation in accordance with MIL-STD-882E such as SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SuSHA, Bent Pin Analyses, FTA, SAR and Software Safety Analyses
Ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and perform analyses such as preliminary hazard analyses, system/subsystem hazard analyses, bent pin analyses, fault tree analyses, sneak circuit analyses, functional hazard analyses, software system safety analyses and safety assessment reports
Strong working knowledge of military system safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as MIL-STD-882, RCC 319, AFSPCMAN 91-710, ASTM, ANSI, NEC, AFOSH, AOP-52, JOTP-051, PESHE, NFPA
Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
History of demonstrated leadership capabilities, ability to work independently, and effectively communicate (verbal and written) with internal and external customers
Have held a DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years)
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related STEM discipline
Experience with concept, design, manufacturing, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal of military weapon systems
Experience with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validation
Experience with implementing and testing software safety requirements
Engineering leadership experience
Possess active DoD Security Clearance

Salary Range: $171,000 - $256,400
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
