Northrop Grumman is seeking a Manager Engineering 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. Supervisory or management responsibilities for projects engaged in research and/or product development in more than one engineering discipline. Position serves as the New Rive Energetics Operating Unit Engineering Manager located on the US Armys Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RAAP) in Radford, VA. Incumbent is responsible for Engineering and Technical support for Commercial Powder, Medium Caliber Ammunition, and Special Ammunition/Weapons Systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:
 

  • Lead a team of engineering managers responsible for the design, development, and production oversight of propulsion systems across numerous applications
  • Oversee the execution of engineering work products of the entire department
  • Define and drive departmental practices to ensure organizational and statutory policies are adhered to with excellence
  • Establish and maintain efficient and effective teams
  • Evaluate manager’s individual performance and provide feedback through periodic reviews
  • Support business development pursuits and proposals
  • Serve as the chairman on various engineering review boards
  • Track and manage staffing needs and engineering assignments for the entire department
  • Effectively plan, define, establish, communicate, monitor, and control technical scope to ensure that all of the work required and only the work required is performed.
  • Initiate, develop, integrate, execute, direct and control program plans and cost and schedule baselines that meet both program contractual requirements and stakeholder expectations.
  • Address program uncertainty through an organized and analytical forward looking approach that identifies risks and opportunities, determines appropriate handling plans, and manages, controls, and communicates risks and opportunities throughout the lifecycle of the program.

Basic Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent with 9 years in design and development of complex systems
    Able to obtain a secret security clearance. (US Citizenship is a requirement)
  • Demonstrated success leading technical teams/and or organizations to achieve a common goal
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to manage a project team daily and communicate effectively with leadership regarding status, awareness’s, and escalations
  • Experience as a Program/Project or Systems Engineering Manager in the aerospace/defense industry or within the Department of Defense or NASA.
  • Direct experience with energetic safety protocols
  • Failure Investigation leadership experience
  • Capital Project Management experience
  • The ability to effectively communicate with the customer and establish relationships that foster effective trouble shooting and product development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Chemical Engineering background (Energetics manufacturing, Commercial Powder & Initiators)
  • Working knowledge of energetics manufacturing facilities
  • Direct experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) implementation
  • PMP certification
  • DoD Secret clearance
Salary Range: $141,900 - $212,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
