Job Description:
As Electric Motor Design Engineer, you will be part of a multinational team in charge of developing an advanced superconducting and cryogenic powertrain to enable high power electric propulsion systems for aircraft application.
It will be composed of a cryogenic DC/DC converter, a superconducting DC network with protections, a cryogenic motor drive, a superconducting electric motor and a cryogenic cooling system developed with partners from worldwide industry and academia, start-ups in a dynamic and emulating environment.
This position is based in Toulouse and it comes with a limited contract till December 2026, the deadline of the demonstrator.
You will be in charge with the Superconducting electric motor team of:
developing, manufacture and test a superconducting electrical motor for electric aircraft propulsion
to developing design and characterization tools for superconductive electric motors and manufacturing process
building a strong ecosystem and supply chain for electric motor production
providing and validate the main project milestones: specification, PDR, CDR, TRL assessment and justification
creating a detailed roadmap aiming to increase the technology readiness level (TRL) of such technology to ensure reliability and efficiency for future product
participating in the definition, assessment and maturation of the overall architecture of the propulsion systems for future electric propulsion aircraft using superconductivity
You are passionate about aeronautics, sciences and technologies, have a strong technical background and like to make and test yourself breakthrough technologies on concrete demonstrations.
You like difficult challenges and are the type of person who thinks about “how things can be done” rather than “if they can be done”.
Responsibilities:
As an Electric Motor Design Engineer, you will be part of the team in charge of designing, prototyping and testing a superconducting electric motor. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
Participating in the complete design of the superconducting motor (from pre-design to the detailed drawings)
Leading the manufacturing process and industrial roadmap
Selecting and managing the industrial partners and suppliers
Managing the delivery of demonstrator and sub-demonstrators with respect to project goals and timeline
Ability to collaborate with internal transverse teams (mechanical, thermal, …) to make sure of the good integrability of the motor to overall powertrain.
Your boarding pass
What you bring
At least 5 years experiences in electric motor development, from design to laboratory testing for aeronautic applications
MSc or PhD in electrical/mechanical engineering or similar
Strong skills in multiphysics modeling (electrical, mechanical, thermal)
Hands-on experience in prototyping and manufacturing electric motors
Well-built professional network within their domain of expertise, including academics, industrial players, consultants, entrepreneurs
Knowledge in superconductivity state of the art and technologies usable for aeronautic applications would be appreciated
Autonomy, Adaptability, Availability, Accountability
Hands-on and solution oriented attitude
Passionate about technology and science
Sharing the values of transparency, courage, humility, empathy
What you get
An environment that not only fosters your development in many ways, but also rewards it with plenty of room to grow
A shared open space office with highly skilled multicultural teams
Ability to craft your calendar with flexible hours/Opportunity to work remotely
