Summary
At West Star Aviation, we thrive when our people thrive. We are currently looking for a HR Generalist to provide support and value to the HR team. A high level of communication, organization, flexibility, professionalism, and confidentiality is crucial for this position. This is a full time position located in East Alton, Illinois. This is an onsite position Monday – Friday with hours 8:00am – 4:30pm. If the need arises for employee events or other occasions, the position will need to be flexible and available outside of normal working hours.

Objectives of this Role

  • Provide comprehensive HR support to employees at the East Alton, IL, and Cahokia, IL locations, covering a broad range of HR functions as outlined below.
  • Maintain internal processes that support employees by coordinating internal and external resources to expedite workflow

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with our Technical Recruiter throughout the hiring process, serving as the primary point of contact for candidates during the screening and onboarding phase
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new employees, including orientation, paperwork and introduction to company policies.
  • Manage the offboarding process for departing employees, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed and exit interviews are conducted.
  • Represent West Star Aviation in the community and at various trade schools promoting local and meaningful career opportunities along with local educational programs fostering apprenticeship opportunities while in college
  • Complete daily or weekly updates in our systems for accurate status on employee headcount and current hiring plan needs vs future hires tracking
  • Completes job duties in compliance with federal and state regulations concerning all aspects of HR, Payroll and Benefits.
  • Provides a forward thinking and strategic mindset and continuous improvement feedback to the HR Manager on opportunities to better support the function, managers and employees.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees in support of a best-in-class employee experience – from helping people join and onboard, to understanding their Standout roles and how best to work with others on the team, connections with mentors, helping to resolve conflict constructively and learning about growth opportunities through internal talent mobility
  • Through professional interactions with employees and managers, reiterate company policies when necessary while maintaining an open mind and awareness to opportunities where policies could be improved and recommend to the HR Manager
  • Support our strong culture through routine and professional interactions with employees, promoting employee engagement surveys while also serving as a team member helping to plan company events and fostering employee recognition through internal systems
  • Assist employees with general benefits questions including during open enrollment and life events along with coordination for support for leaves of absence or workers compensation
  • Provide administrative support including maintaining accurate employee records, drafting employee change forms, collecting required approvals, retrieving and distributing mail
  • Support HR Manager with site-based organizational planning, including quarterly performance pulses, adhoc talent acquisition planning, compensation and leadership development to ensure site-based Managers understand the site strategy for the employee experience
  • Other duties as assigned but not specifically listed herein

 

Who You Are

  • A collaborative team member with a strong focus on people and a commitment to continuous learning
  • Ideally possesses an HR certification (PHR, SPHR and/or SHRM-CP), with a Bachelors degree in HR, business administration, or related field
  • An individual with a solid grasp of state and federal employment laws, adept at ensuring compliance while leveraging this knowledge to enhance organizational culture and improve the employee experience
  • A highly technologically proficient individual with experience using ADP HR systems, applicant tracking systems (ATS), and social media-like internal communication platforms. Skilled in recruiting via LinkedIn and adept with project management tools such as Monday, SmartSheets, or Asana, as well as Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • A communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization.
  • A professional with the highest level of personal integrity, maturity, and work ethic.
  • A proactive problem-solver who understands HR’s purpose is to make work happen and embodies that spirit through a sense of urgency and takes ownership.

Job Specifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prefer a college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related degree; will consider 4 years of equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree. 
  • Experience in an HR role preferred
  • Working knowledge of current Human Resources, Payroll and Benefits regulations.
