And our Corporate Real Estate team is on the front lines of procuring, designing and developing spaces at all our hubs, stations and city locations across the world. From airport affairs and business services to planning and development, this team is responsible for all our leases and major construction and renovation projects, system wide.

Job overview and responsibilities


This pivotal roles primary focus is the strategic planning and execution of aircraft gate and terminal layout projects across our hubs and line stations. The airport planner is responsible for assisting and leading these complex redesign initiatives, alongside the critical task of analyzing future network schedules to identify and develop recommendations for long-term airport plans. Crucially, this role coordinates and partners with airport operations, network planning and CRE hub leaders to act as a liaison with local airport authorities on all aspects of long-term master planning and gate layout impacts. A core responsibility is also the proactive review of construction impacts to safeguard the integrity of our gates and other essential assets

  • Develops, or assist airports with the development of, airport master plans, United support and operational space master plans, feasibility studies, land/easement acquisition services, aviation planning services, and support for Corporate
  • Real Estate in general planning tasks by performing research, gathering and analyzing data, and conducting field surveys to make strategic recommendations to meet long term company objectives
  • Prepares written reports and deliverables for terminal and gate planning studies, which can include presenting PowerPoint presentations of technical information to senior leadership and internal/external stakeholders
  • Supports the Senior Manager of Planning in technical analysis and provides recommendations for aircraft and gate parking to include aircraft movement areas and gates, remote parking and hangar layout, and parking through interpretation and analysis of confidential and strategic network planning data
  • Supports the Senior Manager of Planning in performing terminal planning analysis to include identifying facility requirements, level of service analysis, working with designers in developing conceptual design for terminal systems, study and recommend systems integration for terminal processor elements including; lobby, security, passenger hold room, concessions, passenger boarding bridges, aircraft parking layouts, and other related terminal systems
  • Supports the development of and maintenance of the central repository of systemwide gate plans and exceptions, leads Gate Layout Council (GLSM compliancy) meetings, and analyzes gate layouts for compliancy of Uniteds safety and regulatory standards
  • The Aviation Planner is a key contributor to station Safety Risk Assessments
  • Further, the Aviation Planner reviews updated schedules for new aircraft/fleet roll outs and gate requirement changes
  • Manages projects and contracts for gate layout and striping efforts (GLSM)
  • Supports the Senior Manager of Planning in the development of Ramp Striping Improvement Program (RSIP) budgets and forecasts
Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelors degree

  • Bachelors in Aviation Management, Architecture, or Civil Engineering
  • A valid Drivers License
  • 2+ years experience in Aviation Airfield and/or Terminal Planning, Design, Network planning or Operations
  • Familiarity with FAA Advisory Circulars and Orders (e.g., AC 150/5300 series)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering and architectural drawings
  • Proficiency in data analysis and technical report writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Masters degree in a relevant field of progressive experience in Airport Planning, airfield planning, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in Autocad, AviPlan, and GIS. Certified Planner (AICP), or Certified Member of AAAE (C.M) certification
  • Knowledge of ICAO airport design/operating standards and IATA planning standards
  • Familiarity with United Airlines Gate Layout Standards Manual (GLSM)
  • Experience with aviation demand forecasting and modeling

The base pay range for this role is $81,795.00 to $106,602.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
